What a 747-800 Air Force One might look like
After weighing both the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747-800, the Air Force announced last summer that it was sticking with Boeing. After all, shouldn’t the US President fly in a US-made plane? Since the new 747-8 won’t be ready until after 2020, Trump won’t even get to fly on it (unless he gets a second term). But the current VC-25 is 30 years old, and keeping it up to date is getting expensive. Trump even Tweet-ranted back in the summer about how expensive the current AF1 is to fly:
Now Air Force One is a very old Boeing 747. It sucks up a lot of gas. A lot of fuel. Boy, the fuel bill. You turn on those engines, I can tell you, it’s a lot of money.
So....wouldn’t it make sense to get a newer, more efficient one? Sure, $4B is a lot of money, and this is one figure that Trump has actually gotten right (the original contract was for $3B, but costs have, of course, gone up). Maybe Trump can lease his 757 to the next president. He never was one to pass up on a deal.

Sigh...
I didn’t vote for him, but I had a sliver of hope that he’d screw his head on straight and at least be reasonable once he won.
Not looking likely.

Hey--off topic, but some time ago you gave me some information on how to find a reputable, professional watch repairman (as opposed to the guys at the mall who change batteries). Can you shoot me that info again? Thanks.

OTOH, it would be interesting to see the accounting, and just how we get to a $4B figure for two a/c.

Quote was for less still, per my understanding, something like 1.6Bil. It’s been ballooning for a while.

Ah government contracts. Win with a low bid and then spend what it should ACTUALLY cost...twice.

No problem, here’s the search results for your neck of the woods.

Then raise the costs another 30% just because.

I think you mean increase the executive retention fund. It’s hard work taking senators to golf and fancy dinners.

He’s right, we should just duct tape a bunch of Cessna 172s together and spray paint it gold. Problem solved.

Much like the Simpsons warned us about President Trump, they’ve also predicted his plane (though I assume it would have more gold):
